Weekly Links – Redesign Edition?

I’ve been wanting to change the look of the blog for quite a bit, and I think i’m gearing up to do it soon-ish.  I didn’t want to continually change themes/designs on the readers and give everyone a headache and make them wonder, so after I changed it last time, I just figured i’d leave it that way until I was able to redesign the way I wanted it to stay for a while.   Hopefully this will get completed in the next few weeks, but as usual, I’m not sure exactly what I want, and really don’t have an idea quite yet.  I’ve got some raw ideas, and the name of a good graphic designer, so i’m hoping that will be enough. stay tuned for changes.

Yakezie

Jeff @ Deilver away debt was silent for a while, and I was wondering what had happened to him.  I found out this week on the yakezie group message board.  He took 1 saving money tip from EVERY yakezie blogger and turned them into a fantastic post.  Read it here

One from the Deliver away debt list I liked was the Saving Snowball at 151 days off.

Sustainability/Green

Over at WorldChanging, an interesting way to reuse some tankers and other large trucks.  I dont know if I could live in one, but I figure it’s worth a shot.

People over at the good human suggest that you stop watering the sidewalk and go green with your banking to help the earth.  Good stuff, and watering the sidewalk is something that really bothers me.  Save don’t waste the water, people!

Weekly Links – Summer Edition

Welll, now that it’s june, I’m pretty  confident that its not going to snow again – although not positive.   Along with working (probably more now than I figured even yesterday at this time, I’m looking forward to camping, hiking, hopefully some swimming and a vacation (maybe).  I’m also looking forward to parades and rodeos all summer long!

What do you like to do during the summer?  Put your answers in the comments, or post about it!

Finance Posts

I started reading the girl with the red ballons blog about 2 weeks ago, and It’s great.  In a post this week, she talks about how to donate your wedding dress.

Carrie from Carrie…On the cheap talks about what to do after having a brain dump huge test.  I know the feeling after a huge test/project when you just want to turn off your brain for a while.  It’s usually a good time to get some exercise in!

My Pretty Pennies talks about how her favorite date cost $17.  Keep this in mind during your summer romances, readers! You don’t have to have money to impress someone.

Stacking pennies updates her net worth. She’s moving in the right direction!

Wealth Pilgrim talks about 7 Unique ways to put retiree’s to work

I just discovered Little House in The Valley, and her blog is AWESOME!  She’s working on biking more each month and paying down her debt in her may review, and had an interesting post on how she was rich last sunday.

Weekly Links – Top Kill Edition

Yesterday, BP attempted a procedure known as a “top-kill” on the leaking oil pipe in the gulf of mexico.  This procedure has worked on land before, but has never been tried at sea.  Im cautiously optimistic that this will work.  I’ve seen them work before on land, and they were successful in the aftermath of the 1991 gulf war.

Here are the best links I’ve found this week:

Yakezie Posts

Although not a Yakezie, (and possibly because I’m a SUCKER for infographics) I found this infographic at fixr.com talking about the Top 10 Cities to get a Job in.  Very relevant to graduates.

Kevin at 20smoney put up a post about people losing sleep over the stock market.  Note: If this is you, you need to consider moving to less-risky investments, or saving more of your income.

Craig at Free From Broke put up a piece about how your credit score gets calculated.  I didnt know this until recently, but with the new financial reform bill, you’ll now have access to your credit score 3 times per year, just as you do with your credit report currently

Finally, a bit of love for a newcomer to the Yakezie, Kevin at Financially Poor talks about the 5 things needed to be successful in Personal Finance.

Sustainability

You cant go anywhere without hearing/reading about the BP oil spill in the gulf.  It’s been almost 40 days, and there is currently no for sure end in sight.  They are currently waiting on results for the top-kill they tried.  Until then, watch this LIVE video of the pipe leaking.   That, guys, is a LOT of oil. (and much more difficult to see than it was earlier today)

Health

They are beginning to think there is a link between pesticides and ADHD.  I’ve been wondering what it was for so long, because it seems like every kid these days has it (or a derivitive) and it couldnt all be happenstance.  There are plenty of articles on it, but check out this one from Time magazine
