Well, 2010 is drawing to a close, and now we are all staring down the barrel of 2011. What are you hoping to accomplish next year? Lose weight? Get your finances in shape? Travel more? We all have something that we want to do (or do better). If you’re interested in what I tried in 2010 (and how it went, here, and check back tomorrow). Well, everyone around the internetz has been posing up 2011 goals for accountability and such, so I figured I’d give them some love here. Maybe they have a goal that you do, and you can become buddies for the year!
Financial Samurai has a great post about what he wants to do in 2011. For the life of me, I cant figure this guy out! He makes more online than I do in a year (or damn near), turns down a million dollar a year job, and still is trying to wring an extra 90 hours of his sleep schedule a month to do more stuff! Keep working hard, Sam.
Sandy at Yes! I am Cheap wants to build an emergency fund in 2011.
Mike at Saving Money Today wants to lose 15 lbs, give up coke (the horror!!!), get out of debt and increase his online income
Jesse at PF Firewall wants to tie up loose ends. I feel him on this, I feel like/know I’ve got too much stuff thisclose to being done and I just need to knock it out. It will help in the long run (or something like that).
Red Set a Debt goal for the year. It sounds like she’s being pretty ambitious, but if you only spend $10 a month, I think you can do quite a few things. I’ve got one set for myself as well, and you’ll have to come back tomorrow to figure out what exactly it is!
Kay Lynn (bucksome boomer) wants to become debt free in 2011. I think thats a great goal (and one I unfortunately wont reach) but she talks about this on couple money. Good luck, kay lynn.
Small biz big dreams suggests that you make some Anti New Years Resolutions for 2011. While he’s got a great name, I’m not too sure exactly what these are – could just be semantics. The author makes a good point about most new years resolutions expecting to fail, though. That’s no way to look at something.
Flexo at Consumerism Commentary put up his goals as well. He’s got 7 things he wants to do, and they all sound very do able for him. Increase his exercising, save for retirement, and more. Look for him to really hit it big this year now that he works for himself. He’s also looking at getting into photography. (If you’re serious flexo, I could show you around my state…there’s great stuff here)
ND Chics Sense has her goals up as well. No long explanation, but it doesnt matter if she has success this year!
Well Heeled Shares her 2011 Goals at Lending Tree. For Her, the year is about fun! Taking some trips, continuing to work out are all on her priority list. She’s also got goals posted from Crystal at BFS (volunteer at a local charity), Amanda at Frugal Confessions (take more yoga), Evan at My Journey to Millions (Lose Weight), and Jacob of My Personal Finance Journey (Travel to Grand Canyon).
Little Miss Moneybags has a preview post for her resolutions. Go back and check when she puts up the full thing!
Amber at Blonde and Balanced has a long (and distinguished) list of goals for 2011! More writing, more working out, better scheduling.
Little House put some of her 2011 goals up. On deck for her is saving more moo-lah. Good Luck Little House!

Thanks for the link — I love your blog’s topic, and I’m adding you to my regular reading.
@Red No problem!
@ Little Miss Money Bags Thanks for stopping by and commenting – good luck in 2011!
Hey Jeff, glad you found my article on the Anti-New Years Resolution Movement.
You could say that it is semantics, as it is still a process of making annual goals which is similar to New Years Resolutions. But what’s different about it is how you come to identify which goals to set and the expectation is reversed.
I’ve read that 97% of New Years Resolutions fail. There are lots of reasons for this, but in my opinion it comes down to people not caring enough about the goals that they set. The Anti-New Years Resolution Movement changes this and aligns goals (not tactics) with life goals to ensure that are vitally important and cannot be explained away with excuses.
Thanks for stopping by chris.
I think it is a little bit of semantics, but then again, what difference does it make? If you want to do them in july instead of january, you’d still be doing the same thing, but you wouldn’t have to go to a crowded gym (because the NYR (new years resolution) people have quit going already). I think that people just find walking the walk far harder than talking the talk, so everyone fails – then it becomes a joke. I set 5 NYRs this year and failed them all, and so did all of my friends. No accountability, and no one to make you feel bad when they succeed and you fail, because everyones failing.
Ha! Thanks for including me in your round-up! Love the “if you only spend $10″ part, lol
Lol, nice Jeff. I think you’re the first one to pick up on or mention on a couple things I will never talk about on my site, but kinda had too since I wrote those goals in Dec, 2009.
Chase storms in 2011 mate!
Cheers, Sam
Thanks Sam – I found a few things to be interesting about wherever I pulled those little facts from. You do great work, keep it up in 2011!
Oh man, Chris is hitting every site that has a NY resolution post by saying he’s against it, and then if you read his post he has resolutions.
I LOVE THE INTERNET!
What a great list of goals for everyone! Can’t wait to follow them all in 2011 and see how successful they all are!
Financial Samurai,
As Jeff mentioned – it’s a bit semantics. I’m not against setting annual goals. I’m against short-sited, expected-to-fail resolutions that nobody really cares about.
Thanks for including my link, Jeff! I’ll be checking back tomorrow for your goal updates.
Great links, Jeff! I have to check out everyone’s goals. I’m in the same boat as Sandy at Yes! I am Cheap — I want to pad my emergency fund in 2011. Have a great New Year’s!
Thanks for the information, I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thanks for the support to my and the other authors goals. Great idea to round them up!
Thanks for including me in the roundup. I hope you can tie up as many loose ends as I plan to next year…err I mean this year!
It’s gonna be a great year my friend!
@ Jesse, NO problem. I also have a few loose ends to finish up this year, and i’m looking forward to it – it will be a great year!
