Well readers, we are now 6 months into 2010. Can you believe it? It seems like time has absolutely flown by over here at the sustainable life blog, and I hope that these last 6 months have treated you well. At the beginning of this year, I decided that I would put my goals up on the blog, to give myself a reminder of what I was trying to accomplish this year and to keep myself accountable. Its worked OK so far, but as with everything, it could work better. If you want to see my Goals for 2010, click here.
After learning so much about forming habits and getting rid of habits, I think I’m going to tackle my goals differently next year. Instead of making a big list of things in January and hoping that I’m still doing them by December, I think I’m going to make 12 fairly solid (and of course, measurable) goals and order them appropriately. Then I’m going to spend 1 month working on the goal for that month, and only the goal for that month. For example, if my goals are to “walk more” I’ll put that goal for the month of June or July, and walk as much as I can during that month, and keep that goal in mind for the months after. I figure it’s worth a shot. On to the yearly goals.
- Pay off credit cards. Done, and you can read about it here.
- Have 3 Months of Living Expenses in the bank - I’m not sure this one will get accomplished, but I’m going to give it a try anyway. My extra money goes into debt repayment right now.
- Get Total Debt Level Below $37,500. I think this one is doable, but I’ll have to make sure to keep my focus. I’ve already paid down 12k in debt this year and Im currently sitting just under 44k. I may be able to revise this goal lower, or I may just save for an emergency fund (goal 2)
- Join the gym – I had meant to do that this week, but never got around to it. I’ll head over tuesday to join up.
- Work out 4/5 times per week – related to above goal.
- Walk to do errands – I’ve been doing this, and it’s nice to be outside and to just wander into art galleries and other shops (to browse) and not just run back to my truck and go home all the time
- Learn more about my compost heap and figure out how to make it work better - I’ve learned what you can throw in there, but not how to get mine to work better.
